Final PoemThe World of the Story
I see a world of hate, I look around and see people, and just that. Never exotic characters just fuel for an active volcano. Their pre-thought words, their every man for themselves mindset, their bend to my will fantasies. The twists to turn the reader. I want a world of trust, where we can go to anyone, why should we hide codes in the pages? Eventually it will be cracked, and the creator will either be impressed or scared. Sometimes the answer we find, is not what we want. We all need a revelation chapter, an “I can tell you anything” friend to read our story. I could write the world as a book, it may be a bestseller. But would it change anything? The pictures and the lines aren't enough. Some only watch the news called, “The Back Cover”. The true facts are on page 73. I see a world of secrets, characters hiding them, afraid to share, afraid to care. They bottle them up and throw them out to sea. The pages are torn out and burned, pulled back into the authors’ mind. I want a world of love, where I can walk the streets at midnight and still see the sun. Feel its warmth and see its smile. I want to see people, true people. The happily ever after we all want. I see the next chapter of our world It comes out tomorrow and it’s being written By the people of today. So pick up your pen. |

In the beginning my poem was more of a speech to the world. During one day in Lori’s class we were doing a list of things we know to be true for inspiration. I remember that after our 1 minute time limit I looked over my list and almost all of them were things about the world. It was at that moment I knew I was going to do a poem about the world. It wasn't until I started writing that I chose to do my own world view. I had a ton of trouble at the start trying to write a poem. I could not find a way to say what I wanted to say. Eventually I talked to Lori and got an idea. That was when I came up with my flip flop stanza idea. Once I got halfway through I figured I needed a middle stanza to move into the next stanzas. So I created a metaphor to use as a good transition there. As a writer I personally can compare the world to one of my stories. So I ran with that and after many revisions I added that metaphor to the whole poem. I relate with this poem on many different levels. First, like I said above, I created my book metaphor because I am a writer and I see the world as a story. When I am writing one of my books I base certain things off my life. The characters are my friends and the events are things that have happened to me. Except sometimes they're twisted, I really haven't gotten stuck in a video game or fought Pennywise. But the subplots of those stories are things that have happened to me and my friends in real life. So my stanzas are all about the hate and lies I see in the world. Then I flip it and talk about the love and trust I write about in my books. My poem is all about what I see and what I do for fun. My poem, through and through, is all about my personal struggles and my passions. In each stanza I try to say things that mean something to me. “Their pre-thought words, their every man for themselves mindset, their bend to my will fantasies.” You don’t write that unless you have seen that in somebody. Then for the final stanza it is a literal call to action, I am telling people what I want them to do. I hope that people will read my poem and realize what kind of world we live in. Then they will read my ending and want to help change it for the better. |
