Reflection: This year I think that my top 3 pieces of beautiful work are my catered lunch article, my featured artist story, and my sophomore mask exhibition article. These three pieces of work were all done in different contexts. The lunch story was an opinion piece, the exhibition coverage and the featured artist were informational pieces. Throughout this year I have learned a lot about what it takes to be a journalist. First you need to have your facts and quotes straight from the start. The most important thing about these stories is that they are true. A wrong story is a bad story. Next you need to have good communication. At the beginning of the year I worked together with another journalist to create my lunch story. We coordinated to get interviews and who would write which parts. But I also needed good communication with the people I was planning to interview. I needed to coordinate times to get interview and make sure I took notes effectively. Finally I needed to learn how to write in a telling sense. As a novel writer I can write narratively, 3rd person, and 1st person. But writing a news article is really hard for me. But over the course of this year I learned how to write in this sense and I did it pretty effectively. At this moment I don't plan to do quill media next year. But the skills I learned in this class I will take forward. I write storybooks in my free time as a hobby. Lots of the things I learned here are things that can be used in that. If I ever work with others I will need communication. If I want to write a story rooted in fact or write a sequel I need to have the facts and rules straight. Overall I learned a lot in this class and I don't think I will ever forget it.
