Project Description/Reflection:In this project we looked at the idea of resilience. Throughout the project we found out what resilience is and how it looks. Stephen took us through many different lenses of resilience. We read stories, articles, and did activities to show these lenses. Then in the end we picked one of the lenses and did a project on it. In the end the reason I think we did this project was to show us how resilience is used in everyday life. Even though this year has been hard we have all used resilience in our day to day lives. Stephen believed that and now he has helped us believe it too.
At the beginning of this project we studied 4 different resilience lenses. In ecological resilience we looked at how nature uses resilience. Like we saw the way plants and animals survive even in the hardest of times. In local resilience we were asked to choose a community member to interview. We all wrote 10 resilience based questions and did a voice memo with them. In societal resilience we read a chapter from “Man’s Search for Meaning” which is a story about a man in a prison camp. It is all about how to stay strong in dire situations. Then finally in personal resilience we looked at how resilience is in our lives. First we all wrote stories about times when we were resilient. Then we looked at videos about resilience to see if we related in any way. Finally we all were asked to pick a song which we thought resemble resilience and were asked to say why.
After we studied the four resilience lenses we were asked to pick one and do a project on it. I decided that I wanted to do local resilience. So when I needed to pick a project I remembered how much fun I had making the voice memo. So I decided to turn the idea of the voice memo into a talk show. The idea was to ask Durango community members to answer similar resilience based questions to see how the Durango community uses resilience. So I got community members to film with me then I edited the show. Seeing as I love to make videos and am a youtuber the editing was not very difficult. Then in the end I made a product that I was very happy with.
During this project I learned many personal things. But overall I learned that everyone goes through hard times and resilience helps them get through it. But I also learned that I can work through a tough situation. We all have the possibility to do hard work if we put our minds to it. That is what I believe Stephen wanted us to learn during this project.
